She is, Her Highness Sheika Mozah bin Nasser Al Misnet, third wife of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of the state of Qatar. Qatar, oil and natural gas rich, sovereign Arab state and source of the Al-Thani clan’s immense wealth.
Sheikha Mozah married the then heir apparent in 1977, aged 18. The marriage had been arranged and agreed to, by the couple’s parents as a truce between their rival clans. HH after marriage attended Qatar University, where she obtained her BA in sociology.
Unlike many other monarchical wives in the Middle East, Sheikha Mozah has always maintained a high profile in her nation’s politics and society, even holding positions in Qatar’s government. She has for many years been named in Forbes’ 100 most powerful women.
Sheikha Mozah, mother of seven children, possesses a beauty which is best described as ‘ethereal’. Her figure is trim and her carriage, flawless. Oft seen on the international stage representing the prestige of her nation, HH never disappoints in the glamour stakes.
HH is dressed by the world’s leading Couture Houses. Her garments are always modified to meet strict Islamic modesty requirements. Sleeves are lengthened, hemlines lowered and she rarely appears without her signature turban. Yet Sheikha Mozah always manages to stand apart with her elegance and sophistication. Her collection of jewels is an Alladin’s cave of the art of ‘Haute Joaillerie’ and is representative of every important Lux Jeweler. In essence her style blends tradition with a strong understanding of couture and design.
Such is Sheikha Mozah’s appreciation of fashion that at her behest, the Al-Thanis bought and now own the controlling interest in Couture House, Valentino.
At the recent inauguration of Willem Alexander, King of the Netherlands, Sheikha Mozah arrived at the ceremony in a midnight Valentino ensemble comprising full skirt, demure chiffon blouse and dramatic floor length cape. Her matched turban still present. At the evening festivities to mark the event, HH appeared in yet another Valentino creation, in embellished cream from the 2013 Spring collection.
An authentic, living legend, Sheikha Mozah is a strong example for emancipation in the Middle East. To a great lady, who has managed to combine power, grace, elegance and immense style, our humble Salutations!
At the time of publication, it was announced that His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani was stepping down as Emir of Qatar in favour of his and Her Highness Sheikha Mozah’s son, His Highness Tamin bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
